About Josh Windram
Josh Windram has been around art nearly all of his life. As a Master picture framer for his parent’s business, Windram Art, he is now an up and coming artist in his own right.
Based in the South West of Australia, Josh paints his Australian Abstracts from his home studio.
From an early age Josh struggled with substance abuse and subsequently severed contact with his family & friends and lost all he owned. In 2016, at a time when he was homeless and had nothing, Josh made contact with his parents and, with the help of his family, he successfully participated in a drug addiction rehabilitation program through Fresh Start. This was possibly the most difficult and challenging time of his life.
As part of his recovery, Josh spent time with a professional artist, helping him through his addiction. Little did he know at the time that one addiction was leading to another. Josh started a degree in Art Therapy to help others go through the recovery process as he had, however, it was during this that he realised that he wanted to pursue life as an artist. So this is what he did and he has gone from strength to strength in all aspects of his life since.
Shortly after leaving Fresh Start Josh bumped into a friend from his childhood and they soon developed a relationship. Together they moved to the South West for a fresh start of their own. And that was the birth of Australian Abstract Art!
Josh is now married and loving life. He has a very close connection with his family and continues to develop new bonds with his five children who he now has regular communication with and who visit him often. He’s also gained a step-daughter and numerous rescue animals that keep the family endlessly entertained on their rural property.
In 2019 Josh received the ‘People’s Choice’ Award at the Bunbury Catholic College Art Extraordinaire for his entry, ‘Shimmer’. In this same year he also held his first duo exhibition with his mother, renowned Kimberley artist, Ingrid Windram. The exhibition was held at JahRoc Galleries in Margaret River and was opened by the amazing Helen Norton. All bar one of Josh’s paintings sold before the closing of the exhibition.
In 2021 Josh was awarded First Prize at the Vasse Art Awards for his piece ‘Everlong’. With all of his hard work Josh is definitely gaining a name for himself!
